A Message from the Office of the Mayor

Welcome to Point Pleasant, West Virginia. As Mayor of this beautiful little city nestled between the Ohio and Kanawha Rivers, I am pleased that you have chosen to visit our web site. Whether you are a resident of the "City" or the surrounding area, or from other state or nation, I hope you find the information you need. If not, feel free to e-mail me, or call or write my office at the address above; or better yet, go direct to the department most likely responsible. We have provided contact information for each city department, plus general contacts.
The Native Americans called our area Tu-Endie-Wei - interpreted to mean "Mingling of the Waters" or "Where Two Rivers Meet". Our town was chartered in 1794. It is the oldest English town on the banks of the Ohio River. As you already know from our "hello page" the first battle of the American Revolutionary War was fought on these grounds on October 10, 1774. Our area is steeped in history. The Tu-Endie-Wei State Park commemorating the "First Battle" is located on the northeast point of land where the Kanawha River meets the Ohio.
We pride ourselves in providing a "small river town atmosphere" yet able to provide a pleasant and comfortable quality of life for our residents and visitors.
